Digital Landscape Photography is a broad and varied subject matter, with a huge spectrum of possible interest areas and approaches. You may have seen the work of Landscape Photographers solely interested in shooting 'urban' scenes, images of city life, construction or degradation. Or those who enjoy an alternative approach, experimenting with color manipulation, infrared or unusual angled shots. In this guide we'll discuss the most common area of Landscape Photography - the natural world.

Constant evolution of technology within the digital photography market has provided us with the opportunity to go further than ever before with our work. Combining new technology with advanced techniques and more 'know how' means that even the amateur is now capable of producing mind-blowing results. Whether captured on canvas, paper or in as a digital image, landscapes have always been a great artistic theme for photographers. We have and always will be inspired by our surroundings, its colors, shapes, contrasts and impacts. However, producing these results is not easy, even with the digital equipment readily available to us in todays market. It takes technique and more importantly it takes imagination and flair. Lets discuss some of these techniques now..

1. Location Location
A carefully chosen location is paramount to a good Landscape shot. Think about the purpose of your shot before hand. What is it your trying to achieve? Try to visualize your finished picture. Is it for a particular purpose such as hanging above your fireplace? Or maybe you're trying to capture a beautiful scene such as a mountain range, seascape or moorelands? Location & purpose should come as one.

A great landscape trick is to imagine and assign an emotion to your picture before you take the shot. For example, if you were looking for a shot to hang in the bedroom, think of serenity, peace or calm. If you were looking for a shot for a exhibit, think anger or fury to bring out a striking impact. You'll be amazed how you will naturally change the composition of your shot after thinking of an emotion behind the picture! Give it a try yourself!

2. The Composition
Keeping it simple and uncluttered is generally a good rule. By removing distractions from your photographs, you will help bring more prominence to your focus subject as the viewers eye will not drift as much. It is also important to include some form of foreground interest into the image too, this may be your main subject or it could simply be part of the background that continues forward.

Landscape photographers often talk of the 'Rule Of Thirds'. When using the 'Rule of Thirds' you keep the main focus subject off center and away from the middle of the frame. As a result, a photo looks more dynamic, and ultimately more interesting to view. Imagine your image is divided into nine equal parts. Placing your subject where any of these lines intersect or meet, will help in producing a well-balanced, dynamic photo. Yet do remember that your creativity beats any rule hands down! So don't be scared of experimenting with your digital landscape photography composition. Many masterpieces were discovered through experimentation!

3. The Focal Point
The focal point is closely related to the composition of your image. Simply ensure that your composition has a particular focal point to attract the viewers eye, such as a lighthouse, a boat on the ocean etc. This just makes sure the photo has a dimension and sense of scale. Keeping this technique in mind will also help prevent the image from looking too bland or boring.
You dont have to use something mainstream as your focal point, infact it's more eye-catching and interesting when you choose something completely out of the ordinary. There really is no boundary here, be creative and see what you can come up with. After all, we're looking to achieve impact with our photography. This is what makes good photos striking & memorable!

4. The Time of Day
The quality and effect of light changes dramatically during the day as the hours pass. As the sun rises, shadows are weaker and pastel colors more apparent in your shots. Atmospheric haze is also at its lowest. As the day progresses the light becomes more contrasting & harsh, with colors fully saturated during the middle of the day. Shooting with the sun behind you, or to one side, will usually work best for maximum color impact. A favorite time to shoot is often in the evening, as the sun sets, the light casts a warm, rich glow which works extremely well for landscape images.
Try placing the main focal images in front of the sun, causing light to break around the edges. The results can be astounding. As the afternoon progresses, the sunlight will create much warmer colours on your subjects or scene. Shooting into the sun as it moves towards the horizon can also create stunning silhouettes. Making a silhouette with a sunset couldn’t be simpler, at this point of day you'll find them everywhere! Once the sun has set the dusk or twilight colors can still glow with warmth. After the sun has disappeared carry on taking pictures using longer exposure times and you'll see the sky takes a dark blue tint which is great for atmospheric scenes.

5. Capturing The Perfect Moment
There's a lesson to be learned here, a good photographer must have the discipline and self control to take the shot he wants, but also NOT to take the shot he doesn't want! Do not be rail-roaded into taking second rate shots just because factors seem to turn against you. If you cant get the shot you want because it starts to rain, take a walk, explore! The new 10 megapixel camera features a wide-range 18x NIKKOR zoom lens with extended telephoto capability, and incorporates image stabilisation for clear, blur-free results.

Digital Fireworks Photography tips

Here're some short tips to help you get the best out to take fireworks shots

Use a Tripod
If at all possible when taking digital photos of fireworks, bring along a tripod and securely connect your digital camera to this device. Although this may seem like a lot of extra trouble, a tripod can greatly increase the quality of your shots.In low-light situations such as the pitch-black night sky, it is almost impossible to take good photos with fast shutter speeds - there just isn't enough available light for the camera to record an image. Thus, either manually or automatically, digital cameras should be set to take longer exposures. However, it is difficult to keep a camera steady when taking longer exposures. This results in what is called 'camera shake' in that the photo turns out blurry due to the camera movement.With a tripod, you can take longer exposures in these low-light situations and still result in crisp, clear photographs.

Keep the Shutter Held Down
To help remove blurriness due to 'camera shake', when taking digital photographs of fireworks, as you press the shutter button to take your picture, keep the button held down during the entire length of the exposure. Even though you may be taking photos with a tripod, it is still possible for the release of the shutter button during an exposure to shake the camera a tiny amount, just enough for a crisp photo to become slightly blurry.

Exposure Time
When taking digital photos of fireworks, set your camera to use an exposure time (the shutter speed) of between a half a second and four seconds. The longer the exposure time, the more of the "burst" that should be recorded. Also, longer exposure times compensate for the lack of available light. Depending on your digital camera, you may be able to get by with just a one second exposure time or you may need all four seconds to bring in enough light, so be sure to experiment.

Flash Won't Help
Don't plan on using flash to illuminate the night sky when taking photos with your digital camera. Fireworks are shot a good deal away from where you will be taking pictures, thus the small light on your digital camera cannot reach the fireworks and illuminate the night sky enough to make a difference in your photos.

Find a Good Vantage Point
As in any other type of digital photography, when shooting fireworks, composition is critical. Before the fireworks show begins, scout out a good vantage point that provides you with a clear shot of the upcoming show. Try to avoid streetlights that may compete with the brightness of the fireworks. Also important is to find a spot that will minimize the chances of people walking in front of your digital camera. Do not trespass on private property and be safe where you go at night, but look around for an area that can give you a clear shot of the brilliance that is to follow.

Focus to Infinity
Fireworks explode at high altitudes far away from you in the night sky. To record them in the highest possible clarity, set your digital camera focus to infinity. If your digital camera has a pre-set landscape mode, enable this before shooting fireworks. Check your manual for more information, but this mode is usually symbolized by a mountain icon either on a camera switch or in a menu.

Bring Lots of Memory
Due to the imperfect lighting conditions of the night sky, it is difficult for even an accomplished photographer to take perfect fireworks pictures every time. To increase your chances of taking that 'perfect picture', you should plan on taking lots and lots of photos. Thus, make sure to bring along plenty of empty digital memory cards.

Capture a Landmark
If possible, when scouting out a vantage point for your digital fireworks photography, try to capture a landmark in your field of view. This can add perspective to your shot as well as localize the photograph. Capturing a bridge, skyline, or national monument can add much to your pictures.

Increase ISO Slightly
To decrease the amount of light needed to take fireworks photographs in the night sky, thus slightly reducing the exposure time needed to take pictures, consider increasing your digital camera's ISO setting from 100 to 200 (check your digital camera manual for information). This might introduce a slight level of grain (noise) in your photo, but it should not be too prevalent, and can possibly be removed with digital photo editing software if it is noticeable. If desired, and if your digital camera can handle it, you may want to consider increasing your ISO sensitivity even higher, but note that except for the absolute best digital cameras, the noise introduced may start to be clearly visible at 400 or above.

Consider Tilting Your Camera
To record more of the trails left by fireworks displays, consider tiling your digital camera 90 degrees. This can add variety to your photos, especially if you happen to have landmarks or monuments in your viewfinder or LCD. Note that if you still want to use your tripod, it must come built-in with a swivel head, or you may be able to buy a swivel / tilt head adapter to support vertical format shots.

Use Double Exposure For Impressive Photos
One secret some professional photographers use when taking incredible fireworks photos is using the double-exposure trick. Instead of keeping an exposure open for an extremely long period of time, they may take one photo when fireworks are bursting, not advance the film, and then take another photo in exactly the same location when more fireworks explode. Since the background is the same, the two groups of exploding fireworks are merged in the sky, making a more impressive photo. You can do the same thing with digital photography. Ensure your digital camera is secure on a tripod and will not move when you take photos. Then, take two photographs of the exact same location when different fireworks are exploding. After the event, use your favorite photo editing software to merge the two photos together. To help ensure the ground does not get blurry, you may want to only merge the sky portion of the two photographs together. You should be able to do this by opening both photos, performing a rectangle or freeform selection on the sky of a second photo, copying that as a layer on top of the first photo, then merging the results.

Last but not least,
Make sure tripods are allowed
Tripods are not always allowed during fireworks shows, especially if you are on private property or if the crowds are so large that room is tight. For safety reasons, some festival planners may disallow tripods as they could pose a safety hazard if people are close together. Thus, make sure to check first. Or, you may want to consider other vantage points than where most people are gathering. Fireworks can be seen from a great distance, so look around for places where the crowds are not gathering yet where you can snap some nice photos.

The Nikon's image quality is pretty impressive. Colours were accurate and neutral and the camera's meter did an excellent job of reading the scene and providing an accurate exposure. At times, mostly in extreme cases when the scene was dominated by darkness, the Matrix metering tended to preserve detail in the shadows at the expense of highlights.

Canon introduced its digital SLR for advanced amateurs and semi-professionals: the EOS 40D. With a 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, 6.5 frames per second burst performance, a newly developed AF system and 3.0” LCD with Live View mode, the EOS 40D makes significant advances in both performance and versatility.

Speed and image quality

Canon’s third generation CMOS sensor improves on its predecessor with redesigned pixels that keep noise to a minimum. The EOS 40D maintains high image quality up to ISO 1600, expandable to H:3200 for situations where flash use is not permitted or desired. Highlight Tone Priority mode gives wedding and landscape photographers the option to boost dynamic range for highlights when shooting above ISO 200 – reproducing more tonal detail from wedding dresses, clouds and other light coloured objects.

The DIGIC III processor powers a burst rate of 6.5 fps, working with the image buffer to handle up to 75 Large JPEGs (17 in RAW) without pause. Images are processed at 14-bits for a greatly expanded colour depth, providing smoother gradations and exceptionally accurate colour reproduction.

New cross-type AF system

A key advancement of the EOS 40D is its new 9-point cross-type AF system. All nine AF points can achieve focus on both horizontal and vertical planes. A central AF point is capable of accurate focusing up to aperture f/2.8, with eight outer points working up to f/5.6. In response to requests, the dedicated AF Start (AF-ON) button allows photographers to execute auto focus with their thumb.

LCD with Live View mode

The Live View mode simplifies shooting from awkward angles such as ground-level macro or mounted tripod shots. The 3.0” LCD displays a real-time image in Live View mode, including a selectable grid overlay and a live histogram that simulates image exposure. The AF-ON button can be configured to flip the camera mirror momentarily and engage auto focusing. For the studio environment, remote Live View lets the photographer compose, adjust settings and capture the shot from a PC using the supplied EOS utility software.

Total control

The EOS 40D is fully customisable to the photographer’s shooting preferences. The mode dial contains space for three sets of user-defined settings, allowing the photographer to switch instantly between several shooting setups. A new My Menu tab provides quick access to frequently used settings, while 24 custom functions allow photographers to fine-tune camera operation and controls. The ability to change the focusing screen – with two additional screens available – adds further versatility.

For easier operation of system accessories, settings for the Speedlite 580EX II and new Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E3 can be controlled directly from the LCD.

Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E3

Also launched today is the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E3. Built to work with the EOS 40D, the WFT-E3 enables rapid wireless image transfer to remote FTP servers, along with two-way communication through PTP and HTTP. In HTTP mode, remote users can trigger the shutter button or download images from the camera via an internet browser window. PTP mode is used for wireless remote shooting with the EOS 40D and supplied EOS Utility software.

For longer shoots, the WFT-E3 can connect directly to external hard disk drives (HDDs). And if connected to a portable GPS device, the location and time of capture is automatically added to each image as EXIF data. A convenient grip design features a main dial and shutter controls for vertical shooting, while weather resistant seals protect the unit.

Software

The EOS 40D is supplied with a comprehensive software suite to streamline the photographer’s workflow. This includes Digital Photo Professional (DPP), a powerful RAW converter that provides complete RAW image processing control.
DPP integrates with cameras features such as Dust Delete Data and Picture Styles. Users can now also create their own custom Picture Styles with the supplied Picture Style Editor software. The camera also comes with EOS Utility, ImageBrowser/ZoomBrowser and PhotoStitch.

For anyone worrrying that the megapixel race was starting to run out of steam Sony has raced ahead with the annoucement of a 13.6 megapixel compact digital camera, the Cyber-Shot DSC W300. The titanium-clad W300 also boasts a 2.7" LCD screen, HDTV output and all Sony's clever new 'intelligent' technologies, such as 'Smile Shutter' and DRO.

Sony’s new Cyber-shot® DSC-W300 digital camera is expected to be among the industry’s most pocket-able, high-resolution point-and-shoot digital cameras featuring niche performance options.

The camera announced today integrates an ultra-high 13.6-megapixel CCD imager along with a Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.7-inch LCD screen and an eye-level viewfinder in a compact size. With its ultra-hard titanium coating, the model offers a premium look and finish that is highly-resistant to scratches and messy fingerprints.

Enhanced Operation for Better Performance
The W300 camera newly features an “extra high-speed” burst mode that can shoot three-megapixel photos at five frames per second, ideal for fast-action shooting of sports, pets or children.

In addition to the blur-reducing effects of Super SteadyShot® optical image stabilization, the camera also has a new “extra high sensitivity” mode (up to ISO 6400 in this mode only) to help minimize blurry photos when shooting in challenging lighting conditions, such as indoors or at twilight, even without a flash.

Noise reduction is now a user-selectable option, with high, low and standard settings, for greater control over the final look of images. For example, a low setting can help reduce noise without sacrificing resolution, making it ideal for landscapes and detailed subjects.

As the top-of-the-line model in the series, the W300 camera integrates the latest “intelligent” features that help users take better pictures more easily.

Sony’s Smile Shutter™ technology prioritizes the faces of children or adults so that the camera takes the photo at the moment the intended subject smiles. Improved face detection technology can also prioritize child or adult faces as the basis for the camera to apply focus, exposure, white balance and flash color controls for up to eight faces in the camera’s frame.

The model’s intelligent scene recognition technology automatically can detect five different types of scenes and optimize the camera settings for those conditions for a better photo. And advanced mode can take two shots almost immediately – one with standard automatic settings and the other with optimized settings.

Powerful Features for Outstanding Images
The W300 model has a number of features to maximize picture quality. Among them are five color modes, including “real” for less in-camera processing and more faithful color reproduction; 12 scene selection modes with a new “underwater” mode that adjusts white balance for more natural-looking photos; Sony’s new D-Range Optimizer Plus that process picture to improve detail in photos with harsh highlights or dark shadows; and an improved auto focus system that includes macro ranges.

Olympus announced two new models in its 'heavy duty' Stylus SW series. SW range cameras are (within limits) shock- and water proof and generally well known for their ruggedness. The 1030SW sports a 10MP sensor and comes with a 3.6x (28-102mm equiv.) zoom lens, the 850SW features an 8MP imaging sensor and a 3x (38-114mm equiv.) zoom. Both cameras will be available from February.

Nikon COOLPIX P60

The Nikon Coolpix P50 intrigued with it's combination of (relatively) low price, 'mini P5100' styling and 28mm wideangle lens. The 8 megapixel P60 is no less alluring but for different reasons; for a start the wide lens is gone, replaced with a 5x 36-180mm equiv. unit backed up by sensor shift stabilization. Then there is something we don't see very often in non-superzoom compacts - an electronic viewfinder. A (decent) EVF is arguably better than the rather crummy optical viewfinders usually seen in mid-range compacts, at the very least in terms of accurate framing. Of course, Any type of viewfinder is preferable than trying to compose on a sun-splashed LCD. More after the click.

Canon's Powershot A-Series of digital compacts today swelled with the addition of three new models featuring brand new technology for 2008. The A470 is a $149 7.1 megapixel, 3.4x zoom entry-level digicam whilst the $179 A580 and $199 A590is (basically the same camera with lens-shift stabilization) pack 8.0 megapixels and 4x optics with the practical, ergonomic body shape we've come to expect from a Canon 'A'. The Powershot A470, A580 and A590is should be in stores from late February /early March.

Canon announces the launch of four new compact cameras with powerful new features that say bye-bye to blur and offer enhanced point-and-shoot capability. The cameras include brand-new blur-reducing Motion Detection Technology, plus new technology evolutions. Canon’s Face Detection Technology now features Face Detection White Balance, and Red-Eye Correction, can now remove red-eye automatically as the user shoots. Each camera also has a Face Select & Track function. Ultimate blur solution
With new Motion Detection Technology and the optical Image Stabilizer lens, Canon provides a comprehensive and intelligent solution to blur. Activated in High ISO Auto mode, Motion Detection Technology takes information from multiple sources – Face Detection Technology, scene brightness, subject movement and the optical Image Stabilizer (where available) – to assess camera or subject movement. It then calculates the minimum boost in ISO levels (between ISO 80-800) necessary to compensate for that motion. The wide range of inputs and precision of the Motion Detection algorithms ensure that Canon’s system avoids trading reduced blur for an unnecessary increase in image noise.

The lens-shift type optical Image Stabilizer lens found in the Digital IXUS 80 IS and PowerShot A590 IS also contributes to low-noise images. It uses a moveable lens element – rather than a boost in ISO – to counteract the effects of camera-shake, with no accompanying increase in noise. The E420 is a 10 megapixel digital camera featuring the now-widespread Live View feature that Olympus pioneered. Nikon has announced its latest consumer-level DSLR, the D60. It's a 10.2MP digital camera that will look and feel remarkably familiar to users of the D40X. It includes an anti-dust system that incorporates a self-cleaning sensor unit that shakes off dust, coupled with an airflow system designed to channel dust away from the sensor. The model also adds active d-lighting, a stop-motion recording mode and Expeed branding.Nikon Europe today announced the debut of the Nikon D60, a digital SLR designed for the consumer who wants to combine top technology with user-friendliness and creative features. The D60 provides a resolution of 10.2 effective megapixels, Nikon’s exclusive EXPEED image-processing concept, in-camera editing functions and a 3-area auto focus system. The camera offers continuous shooting at 3.0 fps, near instant power-up in just 0.19 seconds and high ISO sensitivity, all in a compact, lightweight body with a user-friendly ergonomic design.

The Nikon D60 is designed to simplify camera operation and allow the photographer to concentrate on taking pictures. The camera’s simple, user-friendly design includes a reduced
number of buttons and a combined monitor and information display. A 2.5-inch LCD screen
presents information using an easy to understand graphic user interface, with three types of presentation style to suit all users. The symbols and numbers in the display rotate through 90 degrees, presenting information in the correct orientation according to how the camera is being held. The D60 also includes a new feature that turns off the LCD monitor screen automatically when the viewfinder is in use.The D60 utilizes Nikon’s exclusive EXPEED technology to maximize image quality and processing speed. Highlight Tone Priority boosts the dynamic range at the highlight end, providing better tonal detail from wedding dresses, cloudy skies and other bright objects. Live View
Available for the first time on a Canon consumer D-SLR, Live View mode makes it easier to shoot from awkward angles, such as ground-level macro shots or when shooting from a tripod.
The image from the Live View mode is displayed as a smooth, 30fps video feed on the 3.0” LCD,
which is 50% brighter than the screen of the EOS 400D. A grid line display and live histogram
can be selected to help with shot composition and exposure. While focusing, the photographer
can zoom in on specific details with up to 10x magnification of the image displayed on the LCD screen. Two types of auto focus are available: Quick AF flips the camera mirror momentarily to engage the AF sensor; Live AF uses the image contrast data to focus - a method
familiar to anyone upgrading from a compact digital camera.For studio environments, remote Live View lets the photographer compose, adjust settings and
capture the shot from a PC using the supplied EOS utility software.

Other improvements
The EOS 450D complements its headline features with a host of smaller improvements that enhance the photographic experience. The viewfinder now displays all key exposure information
including ISO speed. The addition of spot metering (4% of viewfinder) allows for greater control over exposure in tricky lighting conditions. PictBridge functionality has been expanded so that photographers can correct horizons and add picture effects before printing. A new high capacity battery extends shooting time on a single charge to a maximum of 500 shots.

Software
The EOS 450D is supplied with a comprehensive software suite that provides everything the photograph needs to manage and process images. This includes Digital Photo Professional (DPP), a powerful RAW converter that provides complete RAW image processing control. DPP also integrates with camera features such as Dust Delete Data and Picture Styles. The supplied Picture Style Editor software can be used to create custom Picture Styles for fine control over colour display. Featuring 8.0 Megapixels, a rotating 2.5 inch variable angle LCD, 4x optical zoom lens & 21 different shooting modes! We were extremely impressed with this release. Here's what we found out.

The 8.0-megapixel sensor certainly allows for creative cropping while providing enough detail for large, high-quality prints. It boasts a new ‘Safety Zoom’ which takes advantage of the camera's high resolution to offer extra zoom magnification without affecting image quality. Users can also activate the Digital Tele-converter to add extra telephoto reach on all shots, having a similar effect to adding a tele-converter to your digital SLR model.

The 4x optical zoom lens achieves a 35-140mm focal length (35mm equivalent) while allowing the camera to maintain a compact size. The lens construction incorporates 8 elements in 7 groupings, including two aspherical elements to maximize sharpness across the whole image. With a maximum aperture range of f2.8 (wide) to f4.1 (telephoto). We found the lens is remarkably bright at the telephoto end. An ISO 800 mode improves results when shooting in low-light settings and enables flash-free photography indoors, but this is becoming more common in newer releases. The camera's High ISO Auto setting prioritizes fast shutter speeds by automatically using the higher range of ISO sensitivities, reducing the risk of unwanted image blur, a great feature for maintaining quality shots.

Canon have included a larger than normal 2.5-inch vari-angle LCD screen enables accurate framing from unusual angles, such as those encountered when using the 1-centimeter (.4-inch) Macro mode. The enhanced user interface retains a selectable Grid Line display to assist with rule-of-thirds compositions while users can also enable a new 3:2 ratio overlay during shooting to view the printable area for standard photo prints.

Playback is enhanced with an overexposure warning feature, which indicates overexposed areas in captured images. This is particularly impressive on a compact, and we for see this appearing more frequently in the near future. The Canon PowerShot A630 offers users a range of versatile features for creative photography. A choice of 21 shooting modes includes Program, Aperture priority, Shutter priority, and full Manual modes for complete exposure control. A Second Curtain Sync function allows for creative flash exposures, such as light trails. Artistic photo effects can be applied in-camera during and after shooting with My Colors. We tested the claim that filming is also possible at a high standard, and found VGA quality movies can be captured with sound at a smooth 30 frames per second to a good standard, and the AV-out connection and supplied cable allows for full screen playback on your home television.

Our favorite technology inclusions are the ‘iSAPS’ (Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space, which automatically optimizes key camera settings before every shot. Each scene is analyzed and cross-referenced against Photographic Space, a vast in-camera library of photographic data. This enables the camera to make optimal adjustments to auto exposure, auto focus, and auto white balance before image capture.
While optical converter lenses cause a reduction in aperture and consequently require a slower shutter speed, the Digital Teleconverter on this model maintains aperture size, reducing the risk of image blur. The Safety Zoom also protects the image from interpolation at high levels of digital zoom, allowing users to extend zoom without sacrificing quality.

The Sony Alpha 100 was recently released onto the Digital Camera market boasting new technology and already picking up great expectations. But can the hybrid technologies of Sony and their newly acquired asset, Konica Minolta, produce a real threat for the likes of Canon and Nikon?

Sony has finally entered the D-SLR market with its brand new 10 Megapixel, Sony Alpha 100! Does this new release actually pose a threat to the experience of players such as Canon and Nikon? First reactions were "No way!" however, earlier this year Sony acquired Konica Minolta’s D-SLR division, and have since, by integrating some of Konica Minolta's best Digital Camera features with Sony’s highly advanced sensor technology, produced the Sony Alpha 100 model.

Sony's Super SteadyShot, previously known as Konica Minolta's ‘AntiShake’ CCD has been refined to offer shutter speeds of up to 31/2 stops slower than we'd normally achieve, great for low light and or long lenses. Another major feature of the Alpha 100 is its expanded Dynamic Range (DR) feature, which maintains detail in shadows and highlights that would normally be lost in high-contrast conditions.

There is one main feature of the Sony Alpha 100 Digital Camera that is a pleasant surprise for digital photographers, the Alpha 100 self cleans! Interchangeable lens cameras are prone to collecting dust particles on the image sensor, often during the lenses being changed. The dust appears often appears as annoying spots in photos, and were sure you've experienced this yourself! The DSLR-A100 offers a novel approach to preventing this problem.

The Canon Digital Rebel XT model, also known in Europe as the 'EOS 350D', has been recently introduced to the Digital Photography world at a somewhat moderate price and has certainly hit the digital camera market with energy and excitement! Our Canon Digital Rebel review panel has carefully tested each feature of the Rebel XT to ensure a fair, accurate & informative review. The Digital Rebel XT is not simply an improved upgrade, but is a totally fresh, aesthetically improved, intelligently redesigned digital SLR model.

Our review was quick to point out that the sensor used in the construction of the Canon Digital Rebel XT is identical to the one on the Canon EOS 20D, yet more compact, and its internal features such as the high powered image processor, have been upgraded quite substantially. Perhaps the most obvious of its upgrade changes is the new, aesthetically pleasing camera body, which happens to be substantially smaller than the previous model. Thanks to the new CMOS sensor the Digital Rebel XT now has an 8.0 Megapixels to play with. Canon have also concentrated on developing the speed aspect of this camera, the image rate and the processing speeds have also increased enormously. Naturally the Digital Rebel XT features the acclaimed E-TTL II flash system.

The Digital Rebel XT model addresses the criticisms its predecessor, the 300D has received. It is a particularly aesthetic camera, which sits comfortably in the hand & which also boasts an impressive processing speed indeed. The image quality is second to non, with vivid color, low noise levels & impressive brightness and contrast on the LCD. The most obvious difference is the construction of the camera body. We believe the XT is clearly aimed at the average mid-level consumer photographer.

We're confident anybody can learn their way around this model fairly quickly and painlessly! The compact & lightweight chassis of the camera will appeal to a number of buyers & will be considered a unique selling point of the Digital Rebel XT. The ergonomics of the camera leave a pleasant impression & can be enjoyed by the complete range from beginner to pro!

Overall the Digital Rebel XT is excellent quality for money. Particularly the inclusion of the 'DIGIC II' processor, which gives the XT a certain added value. This processor is now used by Canon almost across the entire range, & certainly pays dividends. The 350Ds response times under a range of conditions were extremely impressive. From portrait photos right through to macro images, the Canon Digital Rebel XT is very versatile & dependable.
